September 3rd, 4th and 5th

My apologies to anyone who might be reading this. I’m having trouble finishing this post and then posting pics on subsequent posts. I might have to talk to Santa about upgrading the technology.......

A couple of smooth flights from Calgary to Eugene, OR via Seattle.  I was in Eugene by 10:40 on Monday morning.  Patricia (from CO, who I rode with on the Atlantic Coast trip in 2015) picked me up in her rental car.  She had flown in to Portland on Saturday and had spent a few days exploring the beautiful Oregon Coast.  We headed south and east to spectacular Crater Lake.  I have been there twice before.  Both times in June and both times there was still significant snow on the ground so the ring road was not yet open.  So....... we started out with a drive around the ring road, followed by lounging on the deck of the historic lodge before continuing on to our rustic room for the night at the Union Creek Resort.  Too bad we were only there overnight; looks like an interesting place to explore if we had more time.  Below are a few pictures of Crater Lake - so hard to choose.

The next morning we hauled our butts out of bed early and drove back to Crater Lake in time for a 9:30am boat tour.  We stopped at a few lookouts along the way.

Then a wee hike down to lake level to board the boat with Captain Al and Ranger Jeff for a 2 hour tour of the lake. Fabulous!

The Phantom Ship

On the return trip to Eugene we stopped for a quick hike to Toketee  Falls......

...... then back to the airport just in time to catch our shuttle to Florence.

The next day was the first official day of the bike trip.  It was filled with all the usual stuff - bike adjustments, introductions, an orientation meeting and dinner. In addition, we had a bit of time to explore the town and nearby beaches and sand dunes.

Sunday September 30

We’ve had such good weather on this trip that it seems a shame to end it on a different note. Perhaps it’s a sign that it’s time to go home....
